After students turn and begin to shun her, her boyfriend Leo talks with her about how the would accept her if she wasn’t so different. She decides to become more like them, and less like her true self, and Leo regrets his decision to try and make Stargirl conform.

Stargirl is an absolute masterpiece, and one of my favorite books growing up. I'm not sure if you're aware, but if you really liked it, you should read the newly released sequel Love, Stargirl. It's the story of what happened to Stargirl after she left Leo, from her point of view. It's really interesting because in Stargirl she's sort of portrayed as this unique individual, and I felt like Leo saw her as someone almost "above" the feelings of "mere mortals", but in the sequel, we're able to see that she is, in actuality, a REAL GIRL with REAL FEELINGS.

Give it a read if you're so inclined!
